Hong Luo is an Associate Professor of Strategic Management and Economics at the University of Toronto. She also serves as the Academic Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto.
Professor Luo’s research centers on firms’ innovation incentives, their strategies in the market for innovative ideas, and managing intellectual property rights. An integral part of her research concerns the impacts of legal regimes and public policies – in particular, tort liability systems and intellectual property regimes – on firms’ innovation activities. Professor Luo’s work has appeared in leading peer-reviewed journals including Management Science, American Economic Journal, Organization Science, and Journal of Law and Economics. Professor Luo currently serves as an Associate Editor at Management Science.
Professor Luo previously taught at Harvard Business School. She received her Ph.D. in Economics from NYU Stern School of Business, where she won the Kauffman Dissertation Fellowship in Entrepreneurship Research. A native of China, she earned an MA in Economics from Beijing University and a BA in Finance from the Renmin University of China.
